Originally from Sussex, Ben now lives in Pittenweem, in the East Neuk of Fife, with his writer wife, their daughter, a nutty sprocker spaniel and a rescued tabby cat. By day, he can be found in his workshop – a converted milking shed on the Balcaskie Estate; a stunning setting that overlooks the Firth of Forth – where he creates furniture and signage, as well as hand-crafted wooden products.
You can find Ben’s wares at an array of local festivals and markets in the near future. But if you’re looking for something larger for your home – bespoke fitted shelving, a special garden gate or bench, some much-needed storage, perhaps shutters to keep out that easterly wind – then do get in touch any time to talk about your needs.
Traditional Skills, 21st Century Design
“My current smaller work is all about reusing vintage glass and earthenware. I search out pieces of fallen wood with interesting natural features from spalting, burrs, knots, forks or splits. I then study the form of the old pots I’ve collected – Bovril jars, pharmacy bottles, whisky bottles – and marry each one with a specific piece of wood, creating something new that’s both practical and full of character.”
